Shawinigan Leucan Shaved Head Challenge

Everyone is invited to put their hair on the line for children with cancer and take up the Challenge on May 11, at Digihub in Shawinigan.

We welcome Philippe Nadeau, Digihub‘s CEO, as our Honorary President for the Challenge:

I’m very proud to be the honorary president of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge, which is back in Shawinigan after a few years’ hiatus. It is with great pleasure that I join this essential initiative to support families whose children have cancer. Leucan is essential to help these children and their families get through this difficult time.

I invite all Shawinigan residents to take part in this event, which will be held at DigiHub.

Sara, 18, was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma in 2023.  She will be present as a spokesperson for the Challenge:

In June 2022, I noticed a strange lump on my neck. 6 months later, I had a meeting with my doctor at CHUS Fleurimont. After several tests, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, which is very rare in children. On March 22, 2023, I had my operation to remove my thyroid gland and all my lymph nodes on the right side. A few days later, while I was still reeling from what had just happened, a Leucan representative came to see me at the hospital. It was a truly wonderful encounter, and I received some gifts that made me feel so much better. It was the light at the end of the tunnel, because now I knew I was well taken care of.

For me, Leucan is my second family. A family that understands us when things go wrong, but also when things go right. In fact, it’s probably the only family that understands us 100%. This family is made up of children who have been through a similar journey. It’s this journey that defines us as people, it’s our story.

It was during the autumn camp with the Heart of Hope group that I was able, in my own way, to get to know this new family. It was truly one of the best weekends of my life. I was welcomed into an incredible family who opened their arms to me. These are all beautiful people I’ve met. In turn, I was able to create a new family for myself.

I’m here today to give to the next, to give what I’ve been able to receive.

Thank you for giving to the Leucan family.

Trois-Rivières Leucan Shaved Head Challenge

Once again, the public is invited to take part in the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge for children with cancer. The shave will take place on October 5, in Trois-Rivières.

This year’s Challenge warmly welcomes two honorary presidents from Didactikus: Joanie Matteau, Clinical Director (top), and Valérie Pelletier, Director of Human Resources and Marketing (bottom). They share with us their commitment to Leucan:

Didactikus is a multidisciplinary clinic offering health, education and social services, so we were delighted to accept the honorary presidency of the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge campaign.

We work daily with children experiencing difficulties of all kinds and their families. What’s more, this cause is particularly close to our hearts, both as a company and as individuals. At Didactikus, we aim for the well-being of people in all spheres of their lives, and one of our most important values is to get involved with the community and act as a motivator for change.

On behalf of ourselves, Didactikus and Leucan, we invite you to join the movement and give generously to support children with cancer and their families.

We are honored to welcome Livia as the Challenge’s young spokesperson again this year. Read her family’s testimonial:

In December 2017, our lives were turned upside down. We learned that Livia had a rare genetic disease, neurofibromatosis type 1, which brings its own set of difficulties. Severe learning disabilities, risk of scoliosis, subcutaneous neurofibroma to name a few. It can cause tumors in the nerves that can turn into cancer.

This is what happens. A non-benign brain tumor, an optic tract glioma, that threatens to make her go blind. The only solution: chemotherapy.

From that moment on, Leucan enters our lives. Both financially and psychologically, Leucan was by our side for more than 150 weeks. And still today, we benefit from their help. Leucan welcomed us into their family, where we feel less alone.

What would we have done without their support? It is important for us to give back to them by being a spokesperson for the Leucan Shaved Head Challenge to show them our infinite gratitude, but also so that other families like ours can benefit from it! Leucan is so important!

Thank you for helping us make a difference in our lives!
