About 3 years ago, Cedric had severe headaches that we couldn’t relieve on our own. We went to the emergency room thinking we were consulting for migraines, but the diagnosis was quite different. Cedric unfortunately had a mixed germ cell tumour in his brain.
Cedric’s tumor didn’t respond to treatment in the usual way. Instead of shrinking, it doubled in size. Cedric underwent emergency brain surgery, which lasted around 15 hours. Several after-effects appeared, for which we were unprepared. Visits to rehabilitation centers were necessary to regain his independence, a two-month stay in Philadelphia for proton therapy treatment, and then more bad news. Cedric’s cancer was back, but this time at the base of his spine. We have to admit, for the first time we got down on one knee. Chemotherapy, stem cell transplants, we were still in the thick of Cedric’s treatments.
Leucan was there every step of the way, listening and supporting us, making sure we had all the tools we needed, offering activities to take our minds off things, and allowing the family to relax in spite of everything. With the end of Cedric’s treatment, Leucan remains present in our lives. They provide support for Cedric’s physical rehabilitation and are present with projects to help us keep moving forward.
We now want to give back in our own way, because Leucan makes a real difference in the lives of families whose children have been touched by cancer.
